After our kayak trip on Seventeen Mile Lake, I wanted to get Bella out on some sort of a hike. She seemed restless and ready to run. I drove up to Gold Cord Lake in Hatcher Pass. In some ways it was a mistake because today is July 4th and everyone seemed to have the same idea. I had a very hard time finding a parking place. The trail itself was busier than I have ever seen it, and it seemed like everyone had a dog or two. Bella and I mostly ran up the trail jumping out of the way of other passing dogs to avoid her usual confrontation when she is on leash. There is still some swampy open water sections and mud along the trail but we did a pretty good job of keeping our feet dry, well mine anyway. Bella was a muddy mess. The lake has really opened up and is almost clear of ice now. Just a few days ago it was almost totally frozen. It was getting windy up there so we didn't stay very long. We took a nice break on a big rock and enjoyed watching all the people and their dogs as they arrived. We ran most of the way down too. It has been a nice way to spend Independence Day.
