8 Mile Run

I've been gone for several days out looking for photography subjects.  Fabulous trip up the Parks Highway to Fairbanks with a side trip into Denali Park where a wolf posed for me.

Then spent two days in the Delta Junction area where the sky was beautiful.

On the way back down the Richardson Highway and along the Glenn Highway got a great shot of the Matanuska Glacier.

But I am back now and just hit the road running.  8 miles up and down Clark-Wolverine Road.  Hills both ways, a very good workout.  Then did my basic workout at the Alaska Club. I need to get busy to be in shape for the 4 marathons I am signed up for this year, and especially the one for Team In Training.  I'm needing donations to help cure cancer so if you would like to help,

Hills Hills Hills!

Ran from home to a mile down the Old Glenn Highway, across the Matanuska Bridge, and back.  10 miles.  My Nike+ GPS is right on too.  When I passed that 2 mile sign it told me I had gone 2 miles.  Amazing technology!  That route is up and down up and down and more up and down.  Pretty much hills the whole way.  I can see that I need a lot more hill training.  I was dragging badly by the time I got home again.  But at least I know where to find a good hill run - right from my front door in either direction.  With the Hatcher Pass Marathon in my near future, better be hitting those hills with everything I've got.  I need to run off the few extra pounds I seem to have picked up too.  It's a lot easier to run without packing 10 extra pounds along with me!  Too much Easter candy I'm afraid.

I felt like I had cancer today when I was running - out of shape!  Gotta get into better shape than that.  But most of all, gotta kick cancer.

Good Friday

Not breaking any speed records today but at least I got out and moved a bit.  We had our usual Good Friday Stations of the Cross Walk around Palmer today. It was freezing cold and windy, as it usually is.  But it is always a really neat thing to do.  I took a couple of photos of some of my fellow shivering parishioners.

After that I took a little Easter shopping break to get some things for my mother, then went to visit her.  Also had to stop at the AT&T Store and get my laptop connect sim card replaced so I could actually get online.  Silly thing!

I just did a short 3 mile run along Wolverine Road, up and down a few hills, poking along.  Hoping to be a whole lot faster by the time I have my next marathon to run.
Got my new Team In Training event set up though.  Check my fundraising page.  Help me fight cancer.

Help Me Fight Cancer!

Finally got myself signed up for another Team In Training event.  Very excited.  I will be running the Rock "n" Roll Savannah Marathon in November 2011.  Probably plan to rent a car while I am in that part of the world and visit all the folks back east again.  I am going to be busy with 4 marathons on my agenda for this year.  Now to get busy and get training.  I am about caught up with all the busywork that seems to arrive the minute I get home from Deadhorse.  This time it took me quite a while to get it all caught up.  Now as soon as the Easter festivities are over, I can buckle down and run run run.
It's nice and warm now so I can always run outdoors.  That is really nice.

So here is the link to my new Team In Training page.  Please pass it along to everyone.  Gotta kick cancer.

Long Run Today

Met with the Valley Renegades ladies and we did our 90 minute run today. I'm so slow lately.  Only did 7 miles in that time.  I really need to pick up the pace.
I signed up for the Anchorage Big Wild Life Marathon in August, the Hatcher Pass Marathon in July, and the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco in October.  I'm still trying to decide which Team In Training run I want to do.  I am probably going to go for the Savannah, Georgia Rock and Roll Marathon November 3rd.  But am still deciding.

Driving home from the fundraiser at Terri's house tonight I was blessed with this sight of the full moon over Pioneer Peak.

More Hills

Ran the hill on the Palmer Wasilla Highway today with the Valley Renegades Girls. Just a short 3 miles, but the hills are good especially with the Hatcher Pass Marathon in my near future.

I also signed up for the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco in October.  I got a special Customer Service entry because they ran out of the Tiffany necklaces last year.  So this will be my 4th Nike Marathon.

Sadly or running friend, Anne Holder passed away today from lung cancer.  So sudden, she was just diagnosed about a month ago.  Now she is gone.  We will be running for her, especially at Nike because she loved that marathon.

Ran the Hills Today

Did 5 miles on Wolverine Road today.  To the creek, down into the canyon then up the other side.  That is one tough hill.  But now that I am signed up for the Hatcher Pass Marathon that goes from the Willow side straight up the mountain to the top of the pass, I think lots of hill training will be a really good idea.

I signed up for the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco today too.  I have a special Customer Service entry because they ran out of their famous TIffany necklaces last year.  So they are letting those of us who missed out get the chance to sign up without missing our chances of being selected through the lottery.  My friends signed up as a team and I hope they get selected because I would love to go with the group.  But we shall see.

Ran Outside Finally

I'm a couple of days late writing this.  I forgot!  I ran with the team on Wednesday night, first time outdoors in ages.  It was snowing really hard at my house but down by Wonderland Park it was great.  I just ran another 3 miles that night.  Then we went out and had Mexican food.  I don't think the calories balanced out!  But it was fun to run outdoors and visit with the girls for a change.  My feet were bothering me though.  It was time for new running shoes.  So I got some ultra thick soft soled shoes in hopes that the bottoms of my feet will finally stop hurting.  They do OK on the treadmill but on the pavement it is painful.  These shoes are ones that the ultra runners use.  Even a 10 mile run seems like an ultra to my feet, so these should do the trick, I hope!
Got Mom a cute little kitty tonight.  I hope she works out.  I think my mom is lonely.
