Running Again

Looks like I am done plodding though wind chills of -40 for my exercise for a few days.  So I did a great 5 mile run on the treadmill here at the Prudhoe Bay Hotel today.  Only one more month here then I can go home and maybe get to run outdoors again.  I do miss that. I've got to get another Team In Training marathon on my agenda too.  It seems like most of the summer ones are in June and I am back up here for June. Gotta find a May or July event.  I'm looking!

Another Blizzard Coming

Huge blizzard yesterday.  I was able to drive to work but in the morning, the car was totally stuck.  Looks like it could be there until July!  3 foot high drifts all around it.  I walked back to the hotel this morning and had to go through many similar drifts.  There was no driving anywhere this morning.  When I woke up I did a short 3 mile treadmill run.  I was keeping an eye on the winds because the forecast is for 50 miles an hour and more blizzard conditions starting at about 9 pm.  I go to work at 9:30 pm so knew I needed to be ready to scurry over quickly if things started to pick up.  But it stayed pretty calm so I walked over at 9 pm.  The winds are picking up to about 20 knots but not too bad yet.  But the night is young. I'm sure I won't be driving that car back in the morning.  It would be more workout than I want to try to dig it out now.

10 Miles Yesterday

I'm a bit late writing here today.  I forgot!  I had a really good 10 mile run on the treadmill yesterday. It was tough but it felt great.  There was a miserable blizzard going on outside, but I got to still get my exercise.  I really need to get back into longer runs.  I have been lazy for far too long.  I will probably do something shorter today but maybe push for more than 10 tomorrow.  I need to get back into marathon shape.  I really have been slipping lately.  Too many irons in the fire.

I did get a little extra workout getting to work last night.  The road was too drifted to make it in the car, so I had to put on the face mask, bundle up, and walk the 1/2 mile straight into the wind.  Phase 2 weather, with a 40 mile an hour wind, 1/2 mile visibility, blowing and falling snow, and -10 degrees. At least now, on the way back to my hotel, the wind is at my back.  It has calmed down a lot too. But still snowing.

Good Workout

I had a nice 6 mile run on the treadmill at the hotel this afternoon.  Then did another 30 minute workout with my new iPhone Nike Training Club app.  This time I managed to stay awake on the treadmill. 
I don't have another Team In Training run in the works yet, but hope to get signed up soon.  I've been so busy with other things and now working half of February, that I have not figured out when my next event will be.  I do plan to run the Nike Women's Marathon in October though because I have a guaranteed spot and don't need to do the lottery.  They ran out of the Tiffany necklaces in the last one, so when they finally sent it, they sent a note saying that those of us who didn't get their necklaces on time, would be assured of a place in the next Nike Women's Marathon.  So I will fly down and visit San Francisco in October.
But I hope to sign up for another Team In Training run soon.

So Tired!

Wow, this was a first for me.  I was running on the treadmill and kind of zoning out watching the little ball running around the track on the screen and I fell asleep!  I nearly fell off because I lost my balance of course and hit the side bar, but was able to catch myself in time.  I've heard of falling asleep at the wheel - but WHILE RUNNING!  I didn't know that was possible.  I guess I am not quite used to working the night shift again.  I felt kind of sick at my stomach through most of the run too.  But I made it through 5 miles.  I have got to pick up my workout pace.  I feel like a slug lately.

Up North Again

Things got pretty hectic the last few weeks and my workouts suffered.  I did get to the Alaska Club about 5 times but that's about it.  But now I am back in Deadhorse for 6 weeks this time.  So to maintain my sanity I have to run!  I started with a short 3 mile run on the treadmill.  Then did my first exercise workout with my new Nike Training Club iPhone app.  That's pretty amazing.  I am able to do that workout right in my hotel room using the small hand weights that someone left there. It is definitely too cold to do much outdoors right now so I am pretty much confined to the treadmill for running.  It was 30 below zero today.  It didn't seem to be a whole lot warmer in the exercise room either.  I had to wear my fleece sweater through almost the entire run.  At least I wasn't dripping all over the floor like I usually am after my run.

I drove around town a little to enjoy the bright sunshine.  Not much to take photos of but I did take a couple. Mostly just frost covered trucks and buildings.  Kind of interesting though.
